Alumni Weekend 2025

Expect a great weekend with the Virginia Football Family.

We hope you'll come back, and bring a teammate or three with you.

✋🏻 REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

LOTSA GUYS COMING BACK, HOLY COW!
REACH OUT IF YOU NEED TO MAKE AN UPDATE:
vfac@virginia.edu

Come on back!

Welcome Home.

Having worked, sacrificed, and competed for the University and your brothers as you did, you earned the right to call yourself a true Wahoo and a Football Alum. As such, bring yourself, your families, and your guests back this spring for a weekend of fun and camaraderie as we celebrate the past, present, and future of our program and this unique fraternity.

A lot of scouting, game planning, and practice is necessary in order to make this a great weekend for you—we'd love it if you come back!

Thanks for being with us this weekend. We hope that whatever time, expense, and effort it took to be here proves well worth the cost as you gather with old teammates, strengthen those bonds, and form a few new ones.

Two of the greatest things an observant fly on the wall will witness during these weekends:

  1. How the faces of old teammates light up as they see one other for the first time. Sometimes it's only been 6 months. Other times it's 60 years.

  2. How the ice between generations starts to melt, and guys who may have only known of each other as names on a jersey or faces in a media guide strike up conversation and learn that they're not all that dissimilar.

Welcome back, and welcome home. Enjoy reconnecting with old friends, meeting new ones, and reflecting on the contributions you made to our program and our University.

Wahoowa.

  • Be comfortable! If you're attending Coach Wilmer's service, casual is just fine. No need to change before heading to The Lodge.

  • There are two ways to pickup your credential:

    1. If you're coming to The Lodge on Friday, you can pickup for you and your guest(s) there.

    2. Otherwise, you can do so at our tailgate tent on Saturday.

Note that these are more than just "HELLO, MY NAME IS..." stickers. You'll need your credential if you want to (a) get in early to the gear sale, (b) enter the stadium thru the home tunnel, or (c) get down to the field.

  • Fingers crossed that Mother Nature cooperates and doesn't drop too much rain on us. But, we came to UVA, not Syracuse. And we played outside, not in a bubble. So we know how to brave the elements.

We'll do our best to adjust and accommodate, but the show goes on, rain or shine.

  • We mistakenly had the location as the George Welsh Indoor Facility, where it's been in years past. Guess what, though? The program moved into a shiny new home last summer, and guess what? It has its own dining hall... 🤯

So that's where the breakfast is: Hardie Center Dining Hall

Come in the main entrance and you'll be guided to the spot.

All alums are welcome, regardless of if you're currently a Mentor. Come meet our younger Brothers and learn more about our collaboration with the team in this area.

  • If you're golfing on Saturday morning, you'll just settle up with us at the course—do not pay in the Birdwood Pro Shop.

Cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, Bitcoin all work just fine. No IOUs, please.

  • With a noon kickoff due to TV, we figured it best to start the tailgate later. That seemed to be a better option for those who have to travel, or those who are playing golf. We've also heard your feedback about wanting an opportunity to regroup after the game.

So, we'll start serving food at 1 PM, which roughly coincides with halftime. You can come and go into the stadium as you please.

  • Credentialed alums can gain early access to the annual gear sale. Head to the East Gate at 10:30 AM for the pre-sale. The general public will be admitted at 11 AM. You *must* present your credential to be admitted.

  • Credentialed alums can enter thru the home tunnel, like last year. If you enter thru the public gates, use the stairs in Section 108 to access the field.

  • Credentialed alums can watch from the sideline, like last year. It's important that we stay in the South End Zone to accommodate the other groups that will be on the field.

Credentialed alums only. Thanks for your understanding.

✋🏻  NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THE BENCH AREA  🚫

  • TL/DR: Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zippo. We're just glad that you came back, can see some friends, and have a good time.

If you're inclined to contribute we'd be foolish to decline the offer; we're wholly reliant on the generosity of the Brotherhood to fund our activities. Scan the QR code on-site, or make an online gift here. None of this exists without your support.

Here's a blog post that shines some additional light on our thinking in this area.

  • Lotsa ya.

For the past several years — fall and spring — we've averaged nearly 150 former players. Add in guests and we're looking at 300+ members of the Family who gather for each of these reunions. Not to shabby.

And try as we do to be as hospitable as dollars, logistics, and creativity afford, we're fairly certain you aren't coming back for mini crab cakes or Wahoo swag. It's the people. Always has been, always will be.

We hope that you'll (a) keep coming back, (b) bring some teammates, and (c) contribute time, talents, treasures, and ideas towards making these weekends better and our Brotherhood stronger..

  • Good question. Glad you asked. Here are a few things we're focusing on as we wade deeper into the spring and summer...

    CAPTAINS  (link)

We're making a concerted and long-overdue push to launch our Captains program. This is a critical part of our strategy to better keep guys in the loop, and gathering their inputs. Common knowledge says we're more likely to engage with those we know vs. an impersonal mass email. Our goal is to have every era covered by 2-3 guys before the 2025 Kickoff.

    ORAL HISTORY  (link)

At the initiative of some of our Brothers, we're undertaking another long-overdue project to capture the stories that shaped our years at the University and our lives since then. With many of the storytellers no longer with us, we recognize the importance of seizing the moment, now, and taking the first steps. You'll hear more about this in the coming weeks.

    PERSONNEL

A group of locals has been faithfully meeting to put some more meat on our bones. We've been forming committees, delegating responsibilities, and getting *ish done. We're also preparing more seats at the table for more of you to slide into and pitch in.

    DATABASE

We continue to recognize the benefit of becoming more autonomous, and one lingering area to tackle is that of our database + communications. Boring technical details aside, we've already begun the boring painful work of cleaning up existing data, and modifying the types of fields we want to populate in the future. At the end of this first tunnel should lie a vastly improved internal system, and an upgrade in how you receive news and engage with teammates.

    FINANCES

We took a gamble a few years ago, moving from "dues" to "gifts" to support our activities. The bet has paid off in terms of how many more guys are showing up and participating in myriad ways. But work remains in developing roomier pockets and a longer, clearer runway from which we operate. We're getting better — we continue to develop friendships with various people / groups, and we've already secured sponsors for most of this fall's tailgates — but we need to [finally] get to the point where our rather modest expenses are covered further in advance, thus eliminating uncertainty (and anxiety), and thus allowing us to pursue our mission with more confidence and impact.  More to come on that.
